At VIMS Pet Hospital, our Intensive Care Unit (ICU) provides the highest level of care for pets facing life-threatening illnesses or injuries. Our dedicated team of veterinarians and highly trained veterinary technicians are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, to provide continuous monitoring and advanced medical interventions to stabilize and support your pet during critical times.

When is ICU Care Necessary ?
Pets may require intensive care for a variety of reasons, including:
Post-operative recovery after major surgery: Especially after complex procedures or in patients with pre-existing health conditions.
Severe trauma: Such as being hit by a car, falls, or other significant injuries.
Organ failure: Including kidney failure, liver failure, or respiratory distress.
Severe infections: Such as sepsis or pneumonia.
Metabolic emergencies: Such as diabetic ketoacidosis or electrolyte imbalances.
Neurological conditions: Such as seizures or spinal cord injuries.
Poisoning or toxicities: Ingestion of toxins or medications.

Our state-of-the-art ICU is equipped with advanced technology to provide comprehensive critical care:
Individualized Monitoring Stations: Each patient has a dedicated monitoring station with advanced equipment to track vital signs continuously, including:
Electrocardiography (ECG): For monitoring heart rate and rhythm.
Blood pressure monitoring: For continuous blood pressure measurement.
Pulse oximetry: For measuring blood oxygen levels.
Temperature monitoring: For continuous temperature tracking.
Oxygen Therapy: We have various oxygen delivery systems, including oxygen cages, nasal cannulas, and flow-by oxygen, to provide supplemental oxygen as needed.
Ventilation: We offer mechanical ventilation for pets with severe respiratory compromise.
Fluid Therapy and Infusion Pumps: We use precision infusion pumps to deliver fluids, medications, and nutritional support at controlled rates.
Blood Transfusion Capabilities: We have access to blood products and are equipped to perform blood transfusions.
In-house Laboratory: Our on-site laboratory allows for rapid processing of blood tests, blood gas analysis, and other critical diagnostics.
Isolation Ward: We have a dedicated isolation ward for patients with contagious diseases to prevent the spread of infection.
